Hirayama cleans public toilets in Tokyo, lives his life in simplicity and daily tranquility. Some encounters also lead him to reflect on himself.

I can relate to the notion that you don't need much to enjoy life, especially not a lot of material things. Every job is important and can be done with dedication. Consciously observing nature and your surroundings can be rewarding. And Wenders makes his point well.

As a movie it's still a bit of a challenge. The performance of Koji Yakusho makes it easier to continue watching.

That Hirayama listens to nothing but rock and soul classics feels a bit much like channeling Wenders' personal interest.

Side note, things are on average probably different in Tokyo compared with other global metropolises. But even before cleaning this must be the cleanest public toilets ever. Though architecturally they're worth a guided tour.

Perfume's 16-year streak of consecutive appearances at Kohaku comes to an end. Internet users shocked by the unexpected exclusion: "No way!?" "Times are changing."

Perfume tied for first place in the female group consecutive appearance record. NHK announced the names of the performers for the 75th Kohaku Uta Gassen (7:20 p.m.), which will be broadcast on New Year's Eve, on the 19th. Among the first-time performers such as Number_i and Creepy Nuts, Perfume, who have been appearing for 16 consecutive years since 2008, was not included. Voices of surprise have been raised on social media.

While the list included regulars such as Ishikawa Sayuri, Sakamoto Fuyumi, Tendo Yoshimi, Go Hiromi, and Fukuyama Masaharu, Perfume and Yuzu were not included.

Perfume has participated for 16 consecutive years from 2008 to 2011, tying The Peanuts for the most consecutive appearances by a female group, and attention was focused on whether they would break this record this year.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Perfume's formation. They have been active, releasing their first album in two years, "Nebula Romance Part 1." They have also announced that they will hold a countdown live concert at Pia Arena MM in Kanagawa on New Year's Eve. In 2018, they appeared live from the countdown live venue, and in 2023 they also appeared on Kouhaku and held a countdown live concert, so many fans were hoping they would appear again this year, and their failure to do so was a surprise.

On X, the word "Perfume" ranked 4th in the trends, even surpassing the participating groups. Comments such as "I was surprised to see their name not there for the first time," "Kouhaku without Perfume…," "Big impact," "You're kidding me!?", "The times are changing," "Shocking that Perfume isn't at Kouhaku," and "I thought it was normal every year" were lined up.

Other than Perfume, there will be no participants from STARTO ENTERTAINMENT for the second year in a row. AKB48 and other 48 groups, Hinatazaka46, YOASOBI, NiziU, Official Hige Dandism, and others will also not be participating. In addition, FRUITS ZIPPER and Cho Tokimeki ▲ Promotion Department (▲ is a heart mark), who broke out this year, were also not selected.
